Journaling — Telling The Story Behind The Photos

Your scrapbook will not be complete with just photos.  If you really want to construct a scrapbook that will stand the test of time it is necessary to tell the story behind the photos by adding explanations. Names, dates, and descriptions of the pictures in your scrapbook will give it more meaning and preserve your memories for years and years.

You can do this in a variety of ways.  Different colored acid-free pens can be used to handwrite text, or rubber stamp alphabets can be purchased that match the style of your page.  Remember the idea is for your scrapbook to tell a story and look nice at the same time so choose a technique that meshes well with your scrapbook's theme.

Journaling will allow those looking through you scrapbook to feel like they know what is going on.  Even though you may think certain memories like the food you ate or the weather may be unimportant, they really add something special to those viewing your scrapbook.

Little details give them insight as to what exactly was happening at that time, and will make it easier for them to understand the pictures.

If possible try to make journaling fun for the whole family.  Ask people in the pictures to add their thoughts to the scrapbook.  Their thoughts may further jog your memory and allow you to add even more useful information to your pages.

Try to label as many pictures as you can with names and dates, so the events will be remembered forever.  Writing these recollections out in your own handwriting can give your scrapbook a very personal feeling, which may be important to you.

Journaling is a fantastic way to add personal touches to your scrapbook that will enhance your memories for years to come.
